Introducing Edun

For a limited time Veridis will be showcasing Edun, Bono’s clothing line that has at its core a commitment to trade with Africa.  There are some great men’s options from this line including outerwear, henley sweaters, pants, and button-downs.  These items will only be available in store for a limited time.  Come check out what the buzz is all about, and what doing good with your buying power can mean.

 

 

 

Founded by Ali Hewson and Bono in 2005, Edun is a for-profit business with the aim of creating a global fashion brand, making beautiful clothing whilst committing to developing trade with Africa and encouraging others to do the same. Edun is based on a belief that style should have substance and while it has always sourced globally, as its business grows so does its production and work in Africa.

 

In 2008, together with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Invisible Children Edun set up the Conservation Cotton Initiative Uganda (CCIU). CCIU enables Edun to affect change at the start of the supply chain and Edun Live primarily uses CCIU cotton. This year Edun is proud to introduce CCIU cotton into the production of its Kenya Kids Tees and Edun Basics for its fashion collection.

 

In 2009, LVMH bought a 49% stake in Edun. LVMH provides essential support, investment and infrastructure to help Edun grow the business into a global fashion brand and support its vision to grow trade in Africa.

 

Through Edun’s operations it looks to build long term, sustainable growth opportunities by supporting manufacturers, infrastructure and community building initiatives. Edun wants to use its experience as an example to show the viability of trade with Africa and to use its voice to encourage others within the fashion industry to do business with Africa, helping to create long-term commercial and social development.

 

Ready for Sweater Weather?

Not quite yet.  The fashion world pushes forward and fall sweaters have started to arrive.  Luckily, a number of the styles are lightweight and perfect for layering or pulling on for cooler summer evenings.  Vince’s first fall collection has shown some innovation with its use of baby camel and yak hair.  These two fibers are incredibly soft to the touch, making even the thinner lightweight sweaters feel luscious.

The heavier sweaters will be perfect for the crisp fall weather you know lies ahead.  A plush shawl collar henley in a weathered brown that has bits of black and grey throughout will work in many different palettes.   Leather buttons add the perfect fall finishing touch.

A clean denim trouser in sulfur grey is a good base to build off of.  A slim straight leg, angled side pockets, and a uniform wash make these jeans work appropriate.  The neutral color pairs well with any of the sweaters pictured here and can easily integrate into your existing wardrobe.

Schizophrenic Seasons

The unofficial start to summer is this weekend (Hello Memorial Day!) but as far as I’m concerned we haven’t even experienced spring.  One nice day surrounded by six rainy cold ones does not make for a satisfying spring season.  Truth be told, we will probably have to deal with more of the same as we head into actual summer.  With that in mind, our wardrobes have to be prepared for everything: warm, cold, rain, sun, hail.  We can see all that in one day.  Stock up on your everyday basics made for everyday weather with Vince.

Sun peaking out? Try the heather blue short sleeve polo in a luxuriously soft cotton (made with partially recycled fibers and in an eco-friendly manner!).  Looks like rain?  Layer up with the waffle henley; super plush cotton with stylish details like elbow patches.  And for everyday?  Try they’re uber soft pima cotton v-neck t-shirts (not pictured).  Great for layering or wearing on their own.

The Los Angeles made line Fluxus has recently launched into menswear and brings the comfort, ease, and afford-ability that characterize its women’s line over to the guys.  The Vocos Cardigan (pictured above) is a lightweight linen/cotton blend and adds a graphic punch with the varied stripes on the front.

The other pieces from this delivery are even more basic: the long sleeve black  Azazet crewneck and long sleeve navy Woton “sweater”, both done in lightweight cotton.   The Woton has raglan sleeves and banded cuffs and hem for that classic sweatshirt shape.  The Azazet has a slightly looser crewneck than other crew styles but is otherwise classic basic.

Go Light and Bright for Spring!

A few more men’s deliveries have arrived from Trovata, Culturata, and Vince.  Within these deliveries are some light and bright colors to help push through these first grey days of Spring.  The nice thing about a light and bright color palette is that it pairs back to the darker colors we seem to find comfort in.  A shot of pink or pale blue enlivens navy or grey and is surprisingly easy to wear.

Cheap Monday, Everyday

The spring delivery from Cheap Monday is full of great pieces for guys to wear everyday!  The button-downs are now produced with organic cotton to add an eco-friendly element to the hip Swedish collection.  The short sleeve Erik button-down (pictured above) features the modern small collar that all Cheap Monday shirts sport as well as a chest pocket.  The  spring blue and mustard plaid will pair equally well with denim and khaki (perfect with the new Vince shorts in soft brown we just got in!)

The double-faced organic cotton button-down in cloud grey plaid is exceptionally soft.  The cotton here is gauzy thin but actually two layers spliced together; the outer layer cloud grey plaid, the inner layer soft grey.  Roll up the sleeves to showcase that contrast.  Easy and with a slightly loose fit, this is one comfy shirt.  Cheap Monday also produced a basic white button-down with one chest pocket, again with organic cotton.  Check it out here.

For outerwear Cheap Monday made the classic bomber style in a lightweight cotton fabrication with its Pedro Jacket.  The steel grey coat has an elastic waistband and cuffs, a chest pocket, and two side pockets.  A subtle sheen to the cotton fabric and stitching details bisecting the arms and midsection add to the minimalistic details on this zip up jacket.

If you’re looking for something even more casual, the Luke zip hoodie is classic.  The black cotton-terry body features heavy duty zippers, a drawstring cinch at the hood, and two side pockets.  Ladies can enjoy this piece too by sizing down one size.   The Kristian long sleeve henley is another great everyday basic (not pictured) that rounds out this amazing spring offering that’s also incredibly affordable.  Be sure to check out the women’s pieces too! Soften Up for Spring

A great way to incorporate the feeling of a season into your wardrobe is to choose clothes that use fabrics that embody the season.   For spring and summer that means light cottons, linen, and seersucker.  You don’t have to wear it head to toe but incorporating some of these fabrics will immediately update the season you’re dressing for.

Lucky for you Veridis just received a delivery from Vince full of these fabrics.  Try a linen sweater instead of your wool one.  Or even a linen shirt for a more casual take on the button-down.  A lightweight cotton button-down in a palette of tan and ivory is easy to pull into what you are layering with right now, and will stand on its own once the season really warms up!  Dress for the season, dress for Spring!

Mid-Winter Blues

Brief glimpses of sun and blue sky seem few and far between here in the Northwest this time of year.  While clearer days are around the bend perhaps you can get that sunny feeling with a little dose of color.  Add a little blue to your wardrobe with Vince’s tonal blue check button-down.  This washed cotton shirt is soft yet sturdy, and feels like it’s been hanging  in your closet for years.  Rich blue pigments are still saturated despite the washed appearance.

Once we do round that bend in the seasons, roll up and button those sleeves at the elbow.  A functional work shirt, a casual favorite, this blue beauty is sure to become part of your weekly rotation, and perhaps even keep the mid-winter blues at bay.

Reach for Spring

Officially it’s still a few months away but spring merchandise is already starting to arrive and there are ways to incorporate spring pieces into wintery wardrobes.  One of the best ways to do that is by incorporating a little color into usually drab winter ensembles.  Another way is to layer in a little spring texture.  Take for instance the linen hoodie from Vince.  Linen is a classic summer fiber but this knit pullover is great to wear now.  Layer it over a long sleeve tee and under a blazer for plenty of warmth right now and then wear it on its own next season.

Seersucker is another quintessential summer fabric.  While incorporating seersucker pants into a winter wardrobe may seem crazy, it works when the seersucker is a very narrow weave.  The blue and white seersucker pant from Vince has such a narrow weave that the pants appear a light grey that hints at some texture.  These are versatile.  We wear grey every day of the year here and these pants will transition you nicely from winter into spring and summer.
