Market Report

I just got back from Fall 2014 market and there were definitely a few discernible trends that you may want to take note of as you look ahead.

For Women:

-Mixed Media: especially in sweaters; mixing knits and silk in one piece, either as a detail or as a more substantial block. In other items your seeing cut-outs with different fabrics accentuating the silhouette and providing contrast.

-Animal Print: loads of leopard print and even some animal imagery.

-Sweatshirt Styles: this is a carry-over trend from Spring ’14. Short sleeve and long sleeve versions abound with special fabric details like exposed terry and quilting.  The sporty style also translates to soft pants and more of the raglan/baseball style tee we saw for spring.

-Zippers: they are added as pocket details and as embellishments; up the side on sweaters, vents at the neckline or waist, and again at the ankle for pants.

-Printed Pant: the slouchy printed pant was everywhere.  Think soft drape and a dressier version than just lounge wear.  Loose through the leg and tapered toward the ankle.  Jersey, rayon, terry, and silk versions.

-Bomber Jackets: hitting at the waist, this is a fitted version. Mixed prints, mixed fabrics, and pattern add for a multidimensional jacket. This is a continuation of the sporty trend we’re seeing this spring.

-Space dye grey knits: this traditionally casual fabric is finding its way into skirts, dresses, and sweaters as well as the usual suspects.

-Key colors: teal, maroon, olive, electric blue, and grey and black of course.

For Men:

-Sweatpant (elevated): we saw it last fall and it’s finding its way into more collections. Interesting fabrications and a slim silhouette.

-Drawstring: pants and at mock-necklines. A continuation of the above trend.

-Printed Button-ups: micro prints in subtle colorways were most popular, but larger scale prints were also found.

-Waffle knits: traditional thermals as well as in more luxurious fabrications like cashmere and other sweater knits.

-Outerwear: invest in a great coat this fall. Bomber styles are a carryover and still look amazing, updated barn jackets, quilted vests, and longer wool coats. Many have leather detailing, zipper detailing, and buckles or toggles.

-Sweatshirt Styles: short sleeve and long sleeve versions. Oatmeal, light grey, and navy were popular colorways for this trend in many different fabrications. A more modern silhouette (narrow body, sculpted shoulder).

-Key colors: claret, burgundy, olive, mustard, french blue and beyond, grey, brown.
