Aterciopelados

Velvety.  The texture of the season at hand.  This luxurious thick pile fabric isn’t only for the dressiest of affairs anymore (though it works there too).  More everyday options are working their way into the Fall collections we’re still receiving.

Cynthia Vincent’s blue velvet waisted dress is a great option to dress up or down.  The lush fabric gets a little added edge with cuffed short sleeves, drape front pockets, black elastic contrast waistband, and an exposed zipper down the back.  Wear this to a cocktail party or pair it with tights and boots for an average weekday excursion.  The simplicity comes in its basic shape.

Myne’s incarnation of the velvet dress comes in a dressier, sophisticated shade of champagne.  The slightly pleated bodice creates a beautiful, flattering drape while the simple skirt falls above the knee.  A hidden zipper down the back keeps things simple and clean.  This is a great choice for any holiday parties that may lie ahead. The simpler velvet offerings for fall come from Madison Marcus who interpreted the winter shorts trend in a loose black velvet with a faux cuff.  So cute with tights!  She also gave us a cuffed sleeve velvet smoking jacket in versatile steel blue.  This is another great one to dress up or down.  Wear it with jeans, nipped at the waist with its velvet tie, or add a dose of drama to a simple dress.  Either way, the plush fabric adds texture and luxury.  Hard to go wrong with those two on your side.
